Sarah Pierce began
investigating the time-honored art of painting on silk in the year 2000
and was immediately captivated by its allure and possibilities for
artistic expression.
Silk as a medium
for design and expression dates back to ancient China; the process of
applying dyes and colors to a finished, fully-woven piece of fabric is
less than 200 years old, having evolved in industrialized Western
Europe. Modern silk painting usually involves techniques developed by
the French, which are continually being refined by ever more artists
around the world.
